In October 1995, Bruce temporarily became a Houserocker, joining Joe Grushecky’s band for their “October Assault” mini-tour celebrating the release of Joe’s Springsteen-produced American Babylon album (which, in this blogger’s opinion, is one of the very best albums to be released in the nineties by anyone).
Their encore each night: Joe’s rock anthem “Rebel Music” from his debut album with The Houserockers, Rock and Real.
A nightly highlight in a show full of them, Joe, Bruce and The Houserockers turned an already great song into an epic–and luckily one of their homecoming shows at Nick’s Fat City in Pittsburgh was professionally recorded, so you can hear for yourself:
Although “Rebel Music” was a nightly number throughout the October Assault tour, Bruce has only played it one time since–with Joe and The Houserockers, of course, once again at Nick’s Fat City in 1998.
Given how frequently the two men perform together, it seems like we should be due for an encore soon.
