1942: Clarence “Big Man” Clemons is born in Norfolk, Virginia.

1973: Bruce and the band continue their Boston residency with two shows at Paul’s Mall.

1979: Bruce and the E Street Band play a set of cover tunes at a private 37th birthday party for Clarence at Lock Stock & Barrel in Fair Haven, New Jersey.

1980: At his home studio in Holmdel, Bruce and the E Street Band rehearse material for their upcoming recording sessions for The River.

1996: Bruce plays the second of two shows at Detroit’s Fox Theater.

2002: On the occasion of Clarence’s 60th birthday, Bruce joins Clarence on stage at B.B. King’s nightclub in Mashantucket, Connecticut. They play four songs together, including “Glory Days” with B.B. King.

2009: At the 66th Annual Golden Globes, Bruce wins the award for Best Original Song for “The Wrestler” (and wishes Clarence a happy birthday in his acceptance speech).
