1970: Steel Mill performs at the Richmond Arena.
1972: Bruce and what will eventually be named the E Street Band (including new member Clarence Clemons) rehearse for their upcoming Greetings from Asbury Park Tour at Bill Herring’s guitar store in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. That night, they play an impromptu performance at The Shipbottom Lounge in the Beacon Hotel.
1974: Bruce and the E Street band play two shows at Dartmouth College.
1975: Bruce plays his very first show in Oregon, to a small crowd at Portland’s Paramount Theater.
1976: Bruce and the E Street Band bring the Lawsuit Tour to Philadelphia, where he plays his very first headlining show at the Philadelphia Spectrum. During the encores, the band debuts their cover of Darlene Love’s “A Fine Fine Boy.” Amazingly, some great footage exists from this show.
1980: The River Tour heads south down the west coast, stopping for a night at Portland’s Memorial Coliseum, where Bruce and the band play “On Top of Old Smoky” for the first and only time to date (in acknowledgement of the recent Mount St. Helens eruption).
1983: Bruce and the E Street Band start work on a new song, “No Surrender” at a recording session for Born in the U.S.A.
1984: Bruce and the E Street Band kick off a seven-night Born in the U.S.A. Tour stand at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena.
1993: At his home studio in Los Angeles, Bruce produces Joe Grushecky’s first two tracks for what will eventually become American Babylon, joining Joe on both of them: “Chain Smokin’” and “Never Be Enough Time."
1996: Danny Federici makes a guest appearance at Bruce’s solo acoustic show in Santa Barbara, joining Bruce for “This Hard Land” and “There Will Never Be Any Other for Me But You."
1999: Bruce and the reunited E Street Band open their three-night stand at the Oakland Arena.
2006: At the final Seeger Sessions show of the Spanish leg in Santander, Bruce tour debuts “The Ghost of Tom Joad,” performed as a duet with Frank Bruno.
2007: Bruce and the E Street Band bring the Magic Tour to the Oracle Arena in Oakland for the first of two nights.
2009: Bruce performs the entire Born to Run album, tour premieres “Roll Over Beethoven,” and plays a rare “Surprise, Surprise” when the Working on a Dream Tour stops in St. Louis for a night.
2012: Bruce’s Wrecking Ball show in Hartford rockets out of the gate with the tour premiere (and fifth performance ever) of “Held Up Without a Gun.” The fantastic set also includes the tour premiere of “Pink Cadillac” and rare outings for “Incident on 57th Street” and “Kitty’s Back."
2015: Bruce takes his mother to see Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band perform at the New Jersey State Theater in New Brunswick.
2017: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City.
2018: Springsteen on Broadway continues its theatrical run at the Walter Kerr Theater in New York City. In attendance tonight: President Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton.
2019: CBS This Morning airs the second part of Gayle King’s interview with Bruce Springsteen, and Western Stars is officially released to movie theaters.
2021: Bruce makes a guest appearance on Late Night With Stephen Colbert in support of his new book with former President Barack Obama and his upcoming release, The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts.
