Originally meant for The River before Bruce and the band leant their talents to Gary U.S. Bonds’ comeback album, “Jole Blon” still (sort of) qualifies as Bruce’s first officially released cover.

One night in in the Big Easy, Bruce and the E Street Band swapped out their standard encore of Gary U.S. Bonds’ “Quarter to Three” for his earlier hit, “New Orleans,” and of course they nailed it. Check it out inside.
Twenty-plus years after their last collaboration, Bruce joins Gary U.S. Bonds in the studio once more for “Can’t Teach an Old Dog New Tricks.”
On his 1982 album On the Line, Gary U.S. Bonds covers Bruce’s “Heartbreak Hotel” re-write, “Club Soul City.”
A cover that was almost a team-up in a parallel universe version of “The River” — Gary U.S. Bonds and Steve Van Zandt replaced Bruce’s original vocals on this outtake from the River recording sessions.
Bruce’s one-and-only performance of “School Is Out” was with its original recording artist back in 1981.
Bruce penned “This Little Girl” for Gary U.S. Bonds’ comeback album, and it worked–providing Bonds with a Top 40 (and almost a Top 10) hit, powered by the E Street Band and Bruce’s lyrics, music, and backing vocals.
One of many great songs Bruce gave away, “Your Love” is the missing link in a story that begins with “Little White Lies” and ends with “My Love Will Not Let You Down.”
